SnapmakerU1-Extended-Firmware

Data Persistence

Available in: Basic and Extended firmware

By default the Snapmaker firmware wipes all user changes on every reboot. This makes it bulletproof.

Persisting System Changes

To persist system-level changes to /etc (e.g., SSH passwords or authorized keys), create the file with:

touch /oem/.debug

To restore a pristine system, remove the file and reboot:

rm /oem/.debug

Printer Data

The /home/lava/printer_data directory persists with and without /oem/.debug.

⚠️ Important Warning

Enabling data persistence may break firmware functionality when performing system upgrades.

It is strongly advised to remove persistence before conducting any firmware upgrade to avoid compatibility issues. To do this:

rm /oem/.debug
reboot

After the firmware upgrade is complete, you can re-enable persistence if needed by recreating the file.
